The Sazerac is a classic New Orleans cocktail. It was the perfect opening for a steak dinner last night with my friend Lisa. She likes a little extra Pernod in hers. The drink turned out perfectly thanks to the instructions I got from Brianna my friend at Dorignac’s! It was strong but fragrant and had just the right touch of sweetness. Remember to CHILL YOUR GLASSES before you start. A good shake with ice and a final strain into the glass makes for such an elegant little before dinner drinkie-poo.
Ingredients
Sazerac
Directions
Have everything ready to you're not looking for jiggers and shakers when you start building this cocktail. CHILL YOUR COCKTAIL GLASSES.
Splash some Pernod in a small cocktail glass or lowball and swirl it around. Dump as much of the liquid out in the sink as you can. If you are making a drink for Lisa,, she likes a little extra Pernod so leave a drop in the bottom of the glass.
Drop the sugar cube in the bottom of the glass. Pour a little water over it. Shake 3 drops of bitters over the cube. Then, muddle the sugar.
Add the whiskey to the glass.
Pour the drink in the shaker (with ice) and shake it.
Strain the drink back into the glass and garnish with a lemon peel twist.
