In the early 1800’s Sophia LaLonde, the wife of a fishing guide, created this delicious sauce and served it to her husband’s customers.  One of those customers was a famous actress named May Irwin.  Ms. Irwin LOVED the sauce so much that Ms. LaLonde gave the recipe to the Inn where Ms. Irwin was vacationing.  The rest is salad dressing history.  The dressing is named for its place of origin, Thousand Islands, New York, which appears now to be a quaint little place full of rich people and historic homes.  See the small island below which was listed for sale for a million dollars in 2013.  I can’t afford that, haha. But, this salad dressing on a crisp green salad with onions and tomatoes makes me pretty happy in my little ranch house.  By the way, my research about this recipe yielded no explanation for why it isn’t called Thousand Islands (plural) Salad Dressing.  But I do know that my favorite bottled version of this is Ken’s Steakhouse Thousand Island Dressing which you can get at Target for $3.00 a bottle.  Still, the roasted garlic in mine makes the dressing much better than Ken’s so make this at home if you have the time.

AND IF YOU HAVE SOME TARRAGON VINIAGRETTE A FEW TEASPOONS WILL GIVE THIS AN ADDED TANGY-HERBAL PUNCH!

Ingredients

    Directions

Roast the garlic while you whip up the dressing and then you can add it later.

    Step 1

Put all ingredients in a big glass jar and stir. Refrigerate for at least an hour.

    Conclusion

I love a dab of this on top of a Ritz cracker that has been shmeared with smoked tuna spread. And maybe a half of a little cherry tomato on top. A perfect little canape while you're making dinner.
