That’s me on the right with my best friend Robin.  When I was about this age, I went on a Beanee Weenee diet.  That was all I would eat.  I ate them three times a day.  I wouldn’t eat anything else.  I ate them cold but they were better warmed up.  My mom took me to Dr. Judge who told her to just let me eat all the Beanee Weenees I wanted because it was pretty obvious I wasn’t malnourished.  I’m not sure how long the BW obsession lasted but after a while I resumed my normal diet (which may not have been that normal as it often included fried chicken for breakfast).  Amazingly, I have never completely lost my appetite for Beanee Weenees.  But I have discovered that making them this way is really better than opening a can of Van Camp’s.  And, as with most of my favorite childhood foods, a glass of cold whole milk alongside really hits the spot.  Boy, was I stressed when I decided last night that nothing would do but a bowl of Beanee Weenees.  And, boy, did it make me feel better.  Oh, and I would like to make amends to Robin for tying her to a tree in the woods during a pretty serious game of Cowboys and Indians and leaving her there while I went inside to eat lunch.

Ingredients

Beanie Weenies

    Directions

    Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Cut the bacon into small pieces and cook it until it is almost crisp, but not quite.

    Step 2

Cut the hot dogs up into bite sized pieces and toss them in the skillet. Cook with the bacon until the hot dogs have a little color on them.

    Step 3

Add the other ingredients and give the beans a stir. Cook uncovered in a 370 degrees oven for about 20 minutes or until bubbling.

    Step 4

Serve with a glass of cold milk.
