Langenstein’s is still one of my favorite grocery stores even though I have moved out of the neighborhood. On rare occasions, I still go out of my way to pick up their Better Cheddar Cheese Spread and Stuffed Potatoes. I have seen several versions of this cheese spread in other grocery stores, but Langenstein’s spread is the gold standard. At least it WAS until I came across this recipe. This recipe is a keeper. Remember to use whipped cream cheese (one carton) and a good quality sharp cheddar cheese. The homemade bacon bits really take this delicious spread from “better” to “best.”
Ingredients
Best Cheese Spread
Directions
Fry the bacon and let it drain on a paper towel, or pat some of the grease off with a paper towel. Chop it into tiny pieces.
Combine the cream cheese and shredded cheese in a bowl. Use a hand mixer to mix it up. This makes the spread really creamy.
Add the seasonings, half of the bacon bits, half of the green onions and half of the pecans. Add the dried cranberries. Mix with your hands or the hand mixer.
Put the spread in a deep crock or other pretty container. Or spread the cheese in several smaller crocks. Sprinkle the remaining onions, pecans and bacon bits over the top. If you prefer, you can make a cheese ball and roll it in the remaining pecans, etc. Cover and chill the spread for a few hours at least. Serve with crackers.
