On January 21, 2025 New Orleans got more snow than it had in a century. There were 11 inches of snow at my house yesterday and it is melting slowly. So no driving, no deliveries, no court appearances and no leaving the house. It’s now Wednesday night and I’ve been shut-in since Monday night… luckily, I have plenty of groceries and wine. I have water, gas, electricity, cable and internet! And I have a houseful of dogs! The good news is that Dolly had a GREAT two days. Since I was here all day, I let everybody roam around and Dolly ventured out of her crate all on her own. A milestone! Then last night without warning she ran up to Zelda (the Rottweiler) and with lips curled back tried to pick a fight. I held my breath. But Zelda handled the situation with expert diplomacy. Rather than accepting Dolly’s challenge, Zelda ruffled up, gave her the side-eye and backed her down with just a LOOK. Dolly moon-walked backwards, apparently stunned and confused. A staring contest ensued. Eventually Dolly’s ears adjusted upward (they have been slicked flat against her head for nearly a month). Dolly’s tail wagged. And then Zelda approached her and they sniffed each other from stem to stern. And just like that it seems Dolly figured out she is part of this pack. Today she actually mingled a little with the other dogs and finally settled down on a dog bed between the two of them. AMAZING. Who knew. I really think Zelda should hang out her shingle and start taking doggie clients who need to build their confidence and have their attitudes adjusted. She is such a good dog. They all are (well, Josephine is a bit of a narcissist). It’s been a good and productive day. Now I’m ready for the snow to melt so we can go back to work!
