IT’S OFFICIALLY FALL IN NEW ORLEANS

HOW DO YOU KNOW IT IS FALL IN NEW ORLEANS?

1. The Saints are driving us all crazy.

2. There’s talk of a cold front, meaning it will dip beneath 80 degrees this weekend.

3. People are dressing up for Halloween (which is really a year-round celebration here).

4. It’s Gumbo season!

Frankly, I miss the hot weather, but my dogs are loving the cool evenings.  And I’m somewhat relieved that my 90 year old mother is no longer walking dogs in 100 degrees heat.  Having said that, we had a good weekend.  Betty enjoyed our Thai food on Saturday and our Mexican lunch on Sunday.  I’m so glad she is an adventurous eater because we look forward to our weekend outings and she’s always game for something new.  We have discovered this great little restaurant in my neighborhood called Tuk Tuk Thai Street Food.  If you live in Metairie, try it! But, unless you really can tolerate a lot of heat, I recommend ordering everything cooked to “mild” standards!  Of course, my mom can eat jalapenos like they’re candy so she liked the spicy Larb Gai.

The rest of my weekend was spent cooking and watching scary movies!

With a pilgrimage to Antoine's for lunch on Friday. After a contentious morning in court, I stopped at the Herme's Bar and watched the tourists pass by. I do love Antoine's! FBW's picture is still on the wall as you head toward the Rex and Escargot Rooms. Nothing cheers me up like souffle potatoes with pats of cold butter smeared on the tips (the Bearnaise sauce is too much, in my opinion). It was the perfect start to a very good weekend!
