I vividly remember reading Don't Stop the Carnival, a 1965 novel by Herman Wouk, while vacationing in Jamaica about 15 years ago. It is the perfect beach read about a mid-life crisis and the vagaries of running a tropical vacation resort. After I read the novel, I learned that Jimmy Buffet liked it too, so much so that he turned it into a musical in1997. Don't Stop the Carnival was also Jimmy's 22nd studio album, released in 1998. He wrote countless other songs that made people happy, mostly in a kind of regret filled boozy way. Jimmy Buffet died at age 76 on September 1, 2023 from skin cancer that progressed to lymphoma. A sad piece of news today.
