Famille Vincent Pouilly-Fuisse Marie-Antoinette 2020

This wine really did knock my socks off. It was an assertive wine, meaning I could have drunk it for dinner, without food. It was big but not overwhelming and oaky. There was a hint of brown butter, not that big oily buttery taste that you get in a California chardonnay sometimes. There was a lot of white fruit in the first sip. The minerally taste came on the finish, I thought. But it was a long finish. The wine had a gorgeous color in the glass. My sister sent this wine to me from Wine.com. I highly recommend this one!

Here is a little background about this wine: Famille Vincent Pouilly-Fuissé Cuvée Marie Antoinette is a tribute to Antoine Vincent’s grandmother mother, Marie Antoinette Vincent. The wine is sourced from several parcels including young vines from the Château Fuissé vineyards of Le Clos, Les Brûlés and Les Combettes as well as several non-domaine yet family owned parcels throughout the appellation. Cuvée Marie Antoinette is created with a fresh, youthful profile in mind. The grapes are vinified in stainless steel tank with only about 25% of the total blend seeing any time in oak. The resulting wine is pleasing, refreshing and crisp on the palate, with youthful layers of acidity, apple, peach and vanilla.

Someone named Caesar77 reviewed the wine on Cellartracker and, although I don’t necessarily agree with everything he said, his analysis is interesting if a tad pretentious: Fallow brass w/ green-hued clear edge in color. Nose of white flowers, pineapple, and lemon Thai basil. On the palate: yellow delicious apple, starfruit, pineapple and glints of flinty minerality. Medium weight with moderate acid and a fairly linear expansion across the palate. Long finish of starfruit and lemon cream. Not as much of a fruit bomb as it probably sounds from this write-up…wine is dry and accentuates food pairings (as opposed to dominating). That said, if I were blindfolded, I’d definitely be thinking NZ or California.
