This is my pick for Best Picture. It drew me in slowly until I was fully invested and then in the last 20 minutes it just blew me away. Jessie Buckley should win Best Actress for this, hands down. Directed by Chloe Zhao who won Best Director for Nomadland (2020), which is also a great movie, and co-written by Zhao with Maggie O’Farrell (based on the latter’s 2020 novel), this movie is just gorgeous. I was worried that the death of Shakespeare’s child would just be too sad to watch but the story is life-affirming and reassuring. Visually captivating. Great acting. Best Director, Best Actress… maybe even Best Picture. That’s my prediction!
