AN AWARDS SHOW THAT LEFT US FEELING UPLIFTED!
After the debacle that the Academy Awards show turned out to be, it was fun to watch the Grammys award show. The show itself hit all the right notes, from the virtual appearance by Ukranian President Zelensky to the joyful acceptance speech of Jon Batiste. Batiste, the New Orleanian who won the award for Album of the Year, seemed genuinely sincere when he said he didn’t think there WAS a “best artist.” I think the best reaction to winning was by Silk Sonic when the award for Best Record was announced. They rose slowly, then danced and swaggered their way to the stage. Lady Gaga displayed her gracious nature when she helped SZA get onto the stage without tripping over her train. Keith Urban displayed his tattoo and his classy style (well, hell, he is married to Nicole Kidman, how classy is that?) And, Lenny Kravitz, Travis Barker and H.E.R. brought the house down with their explosive rendition of, “Are you Gonna Go My Way.” The talent at this show was amazing, and the vibe was good-natured and lively. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences should take a page from The Grammys. The 2022 Grammys Awards show was actually a pleasure to watch.
