I really like this wine. It’s crisp, not oaky, easy to drink and perfect for summer. In fact, it goes down a little too easily! I couldn’t really identify the fruit beyond the lemon-lime flavor, although I thought I caught a little ripe ‘something,’ maybe peach or cantaloupe. I like the color and the texture. I like it bracingly cold but it was good as it warmed up a little, too. This is about $16 at Dorignac’s in August of 2026. It is sourced from the gravelly soils of the Friuili Grave DOC region in northeastern Italy. I was surprised it was rated only 87 by Wine Enthusiast but it does seem rather innocuous, and it is relatively low alcohol, so maybe this wine lacks the distinction some reviewers applaud.
The Ferrari-Carano web site says: Ferrari-Carano pays homage to its Italian roots with the introduction of this brand new Pinot Grigio from the world-renowned Friuli Grave appellation of Italy, an area known for producing acclaimed white wines. With a four-decade winemaking legacy deeply rooted in California, Ferrari-Carano honors its founders by venturing to Udine and Pordenone in Italy to seek out exceptional vineyard sites that eloquently express the unique terroir of the region, creating a crisp, clean, and refreshing Italian Pinot Grigio. This wine is a lighter bodied and crisper expression of the varietal than the Ferrari-Carano Sonoma Pinot Grigio, a welcome new style that fans are sure to love.
