OLIVIER LEFLAIVE POMMARD 2018

This wine knocked my socks off. I jotted down notes as I was tasting and my first impression was candied apple, cherry coke, strawberries and plums. At some point, I thought I caught a meaty, beefy taste and then later the tannins really came into focus. At the end I wrote down mint and eucalyptus. At any rate, this wine was interesting, evolving and engaging. I will get some more of this and store it away!

This is a Pinot Noir from the Cote de Beaune in Burgundy, France. The 2018 vintage was warm, dry and yielded a generous volume of optimal grape ripeness. This bottle at Dorignac’s was less expensive than the prices I see it selling for on-line so I’m going back to get some more! Wine Spectator said: This is graceful and racy, its black cherry and blackberry fruit driven by bracing acidity. Dusty, mouthcoating tannins are present too, however this red has the requisite fruit to develop over the next decade or two. Crisp finish. Best from 2024 through 2036. 50 cases imported.
