TUK TUK THAI

I love this restaurant. A “tuk tuk” is a kind of rickshaw, emblematic of the street food served in this tiny eatery in a small strip mall in Metairie. At peak hours this place is packed and the tables are really close together so don’t go here for a romantic conversation. But if you like spicy Thai food, this is a must-try! The wait people are nice, the service is fast and the food is spicy. I have enjoyed everything I ate here, especially the mussels in a spicy fragrant broth perfect for sopping up with the buttery roti. The “bird’s nest” is a crunchy nest of fried egg noodles topped with stir-fried chicken or beef or shrimp and vegetables in a slightly sweet tangy sauce. The hot and sour soup reminds me a bit of Dorignac’s turtle soup without the turtle, tangy, vinegar-y and thick. The pad krapow was spicy enough to make me cough but I loved it. This little place is turning out consistently wonderful spicy Thai street food. If the close quarters don’t bother you, you’ll love it.
