Watching the Depp-Heard trial is like watching a train wreck. It’s painful to watch and hard to ignore. Depp clearly has a substance abuse problem. He’s bloated and arrogant and trying to play the victim. Amber Heard appears to be mentally unstable, vindictive and trying to play the victim. Depp claims he was economically damaged by Heard’s accusations of domestic abuse but is this trial helping his reputation? As for Amber, she is hardly the poster girl for domestic violence advocates. In fact, her fake victimization is an insult to women who are truly in abusive relationships that they cannot exit. Amber had the resources to get out of that twisted relationship, and she should have. Her self-portrayal as a victim is offensive. Neither one of these people is a sympathetic figure. Still, the Depp trial provoked me to watch BLOW (2001) last night and it reminded me of how talented and fun to watch the YOUNG Depp really was.
