I watched this movie while on vacation in Jamaica, and it made me wish I was in Bali. Well, sort of. Actually, I was pretty happy where I was. And maybe that had something to do with how much fun I had watching this movie. The chemistry between Julia Roberts and George Clooney was palpable. Even when they were bickering and casting insults at each other, the mutual attraction was obvious. The flaws in the story line were completely forgivable. Who cares if it took 37 coincidences to throw these two lovers back together? Cary Grant and Kathryn Hepburn couldn’t have pulled this off with any more elan than George and Julia did. For the record, Julia has the best laugh in the entire world. And George is relentlessly charming even when (especially when) his character is plastered. This movie is pure fantasy. The scenery is beautiful; the actors are beautiful, and the story is beautiful if not completely corny. This is a movie to watch when you want to feel good. Don’t worry about the real life odds of a divorced couple winding up seated next to each other on a flight to Bali. That will only spoil the fun.
