After watching old Vietnam movies all week, including The Deerhunter, it was only natural that I opted this weekend to watch The Covenant directed by Guy Ritchie. There was much about this movie that reminded me of some of the best Vietnam films, the beautiful but scary-as-hell geography, the dramatic soundtrack that left the sound of (war) music ringing in your ears, and an almost incomprehensible story of human bravery… and cruelty. This was a powerful movie, masterfully directed. Jake Gyllenhaal and Dar Salim gave tremendous performances. This is the best movie I have watched in a while. I strongly recommend this one if your nerves can take it.
